Craft and Render
Drawings and models that demonstrate my skills outside of the traditional project setting.
Uffizi Hand-Render
The Uffizi was a hand‑rendered drawing of the Uffizi in Florence, Italy. Its goal was to create an accurate perspective using the plan of the site to project the lines upward. While this drawing followed steps laid out by the professor, it taught students how to correctly render in perspective and transfer plans. In addition, I went beyond the project requirements and rendered the right side of the drawing, showcasing my drawing skills.
Emperor Penguin Lamp
This project’s main focus was to encourage students to build to scale. We were tasked with building a functioning lamp based on an animal of our choosing. My lamp design was based on the emperor penguin and was meant to highlight the way the bird cranes its neck down toward its egg while nesting. I carved the entire wood base out of a single block of wood through multiple rounds of sawing and sanding. I wired my own bulb and cord and additionally learned how to weld to create the lamp shade. The final design stands roughly 20” tall.
Gold House Drawing
The Gold House was a project focused on building a studio/living space to be placed in Penn State’s Arboretum. The goal was to design a house that emphasized the study of a species living in the woods while being sustainable and eco-friendly. The Gold House is designed to study the living habits of the American goldfinch. It is stilted to minimize impact on the woods, runs on collected rainwater, and utilizes off-site solar panels for power. This drawing was a fun chance to showcase a more simplistic rendering style and showcase my photoshop skills.
